Garmin Forerunner 910XT

The Garmin Forerunner 910XT is a high-performance watch designed for those involved in endurance sports such as swimming, cycling, or running. It is probably one of the smallest multi-sports watches with an integrated GPS that Garmin has ever made. Having integrated GPS, users can upload their performance data to Garmin Connect and evaluate their performance.

What data you get, again depends on you. The Garmin Forerunner 910XT’s display field is customizable for all three sports. Select the sport, define the fields and choose what data to be shown in each field. You can choose the standard pace monitoring or display other metrics such as intensity factor and balance. The display uses a user-friendly font that makes reading the watch easy and the screen performs quite well even when under sunlight.

To give you some competition, it also creates a Virtual Racer when you select running. A virtual racer is a small-computerized person running at a set pace. You have the option to choose a consistent pace for your virtual partner or to pick a previous activity and race that exact course. Your virtual competitor will pace himself according to how fast you actually ran previously. We think this is a very Interesting feature.

It also offers highly configurable workout. You set alerts for warm-ups, intervals, rests and cool downs. For example, if you opt for the run/walk function, it will alert you when to switch to walking or running. Not only that but it also displays goals and summaries.

Under swim mode it allows you the freedom to choose pool length. This is a feature that no other GPS watch offers to date. You can choose from 25M, 50M and 25 yards to custom yards or custom meters. You can also select a specific swim stroke. Currently it offers freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, combination of strokes and unidentified stroke. Yes, that is displayed as “unknown” stroke.

Select the stroke you want to train for, turn on the start button and jump in the pool. Your strokes and turns are tracked to count laps and measure stroke efficiency by the motion sensor. It offers open water swimming with GPS however the signals may appear weak at times. A common problem with GPS watches.

At the moment, the Garmin Forerunner 910XT does not offer pre-created workouts for swimming mode. However, users can set up time and distance alerts. For example, you can set an alert for every 500 yards. So when you achieve 500 yards, the watch will beep and alert you. Even if you do not hear the beep, the watch will vibrate. When you are done, you can see a complete history of your workouts, sets, laps, intervals and length.

The Garmin 910XT comes supplied with a USB Ant Stick, AC charger, charging clip, expander strap and user manual. Other options include heart rate strap and speed/cadence sensor.

What Other People Say About the Garmin Forerunner 910XT
I am an avid runner and this “computer” gave me all the metrics I need to monitor and enhance my performance I love it. I loved it more when I was injured and had to cut back on running and pick up cycle, it had full functionality for cyclists so I got double the return on my investment! by Amer Chebaro

“This is more than a watch and heart rate monitor. I can easily input my monthly training and them collect desirable metrics during execution and easily evaluate them on Garmin Connect. Lightweight, the GPS synchronizes way faster than my old Forerunner 305. I highly recommend for running lovers.” by Daniel Henrique Uehara

“Definitely the best GPS watch I have worked with! Would recommend to anyone, even if you’re just going to use it for running. I’m a collegiate distance runner and I use it mainly just for running. As lot of my friends don’t like the bulkyness of our, but the bigger screen allows for greater visibility and the option for more data field per screen.” by Nelson Orton

“My wife bought me this watch for Christmas. I have the triathlete bundle version. I have been using it for biking, running and swimming for about a month now. I really like this product. This is truly a well built triathlon watch.” by Dennis Shirokov

“This is a fantastic gadget!! I use it all the time – when I’m walking the dog, running on the treadmill, running outside, and biking. It’s super easy to use and you can customize the screens to see exactly what you want. It’s really helped me with my training to be able to monitor my heart rate, my pace, and my cadence on the bike. I think you can get a separate mount for the bike, but I just wrap it around the handle bar like I would my wrist, and it works perfectly. If I could change one thing it would be the size… maybe. I like the large display so I can see everything, but it’s quite bulky on a ladies wrist.” by Jami Bova
